Spiral Blue Reports First Results From Space Edge Zero Computers
Spiral Blue has announced the first results from its revolutionary Space Edge Zero computers currently in orbit.
Spiral Blue has announced initial results from the in-orbit testing of its Space Edge Zero (SEZ) computer prototype. The SEZ computer prototype was launched earlier this year on the 13th of January onboard a SpaceX rideshare mission. The SEZ was launched onboard Polish satellite manufacturer SatRev’s SW1FT satellite.
The initial results containing low-level telemetry data indicate both successful startup and initial operation of the SEZ computer, indicating that it can survive launch conditions and the harsh environment of space for three months while turned off.
This testing was not previously possible due to the SW1FT satellite being impacted by a geomagnetic storm on the 3rd of February, which affected many other satellites. Spiral Blue and SatRev are still working to restore full functionality to the SW1FT satellite, which will allow for more thorough testing of the SEZ computer’s capabilities.
This mission ultimately aims to carry out onboard processing of images captured by the SW1FT satellite’s VISION 300 camera.
“This is only the first step in our flight testing program,” said Taofiq Huq, CEO of Spiral Blue.
“Plenty of work remains to prove out our Space Edge Computing technology and bring it to initial operational status, also known as TRL 7. We’re excited to continue working with SatRev and other organisations to achieve this important milestone.”

Spiral Blue also aims to launch in October 2022 with satellite operator and manufacturer Satellogic as part of their Hosted Payloads Program. This launch will see an upgraded version of the Space Edge computer called Space Edge-1 (SE-1) go into orbit. The SE-1 computer will also be onboard the Waratah Seed mission after winning joint first prize in the Waratah Seed competition.
Spiral Blue was also a recipient of the Australian Space Agency’s Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement Grant, which supports the Australian space industry to build capacity to deliver products and services into both domestic and international space industry supply chains that could support Moon to Mars activities. This grant is supporting the development of Spiral Blue’s Space Edge Services platform.
